Metro is looking out for our tax dollars
Metro is pondering some new service adjustments. Translation: more service cuts are on the horizon:
Among the proposed changes scheduled for Jan. 23, 2005, are the discontinuation of the Alief Park & Ride portion of the 262 Alief/Westwood Park & Ride route; closure of the Alief Park & Ride lot at 8901 Boone Road in far west Houston; and extension of the 137 Northshore Express route via Woodforest to the Maxey Road Park & Ride lot on Sundays.
METRO also is evaluating the proposed discontinuation of several previously identified low-performing routes, including the 35 Leeland (weekday), 41 Gulf Meadows Circulator (weekday), 54 Aldine-Hollyvale (weekday and Saturday), 64 Lincoln City Circulator (weekday) and 89 South Park Circulator (weekday). These routes currently are on a six-month probationary period. If ridership on these routes fails to rise to a sustainable level, they may be discontinued on April 3, 2005.

Here's the full list of service adjustments Metro is considering (which, of course means it will happen regardless of what the public wants):

34 Montrose Crosstown Weekday - Extended the route via Pressler to the TMC Transit Center (effective Nov. 1, 2004).
35 Leeland Weekday - Route is on probation, subject to elimination on April 3, 2005, due to poor performance.
41 Gulf Meadows Circulator Weekday - Route is on probation, subject to elimination on April 3, 2005, due to poor performance.
53 Westheimer Limited Weekday - Adjusted trip time to meet ridership demand (effective Oct. 31, 2004).
54 Aldine-Hollyvale Weekday and Saturday - Place the route on probation, subject to elimination on April 3, 2005, due to poor performance.
64 Lincoln City Circulator Weekday - Route is on probation, subject to elimination on April 3, 2005, due to poor performance
82 Westheimer Saturday and Sunday - Adjusted trip times for more reliable service (effective Oct. 31, 2004).
89 South Park Circulator Weekday - Route is on probation, subject to elimination on April 3, 2005, due to poor performance.
102 IAH Airport Express Weekday, Saturday and Sunday - Rerouted through Greenspoint to improve service accessibility. Changed weekend frequency from 45 to 50 minutes. Changed departure time of last weekend northbound trip from 11:31 p.m. to 11:11 p.m. (effective Oct. 31 2004).
137 Northshore Express Sunday - Extend the route via Woodforest to the Maxey Road Park and Ride lot.
221 Kingsland Weekday - Adjusted trip time to meet ridership demand (effective Oct. 31, 2004).
262 Alief/Westwood Weekday - Due to the closure of the Alief Park and Ride lot, eliminate the portion of the route between the Alief and Westwood Park and Ride lots. Modify service to meet demand. All service to and from the Central Business District/Downtown will end at the Westwood Park and Ride lot.
283 Kuykendahl-Greenway/Uptown Weekday - Adjusted trip times to meet 205 Kingwood trips in the Central Business District/Downtown (effective Oct. 31, 2004).
286 West Little York-Greenway/ Uptown Weekday - Modified trip times to meet the 221 Kingsland and the 298 Addicks-Northwest Transit Center trips at the Northwest Transit Center (effective Oct. 31, 2004).
326 TMC Campus Trolley Weekday - Modified route to operate via Lamar Fleming instead of North MacGregor and South Braeswood and via John Freeman instead of Ross Sterling (effective October 31, 2004).
464 Bell Street Trolley Weekday - Eliminated route due to poor performance (Oct. 31, 2004).
465 Main Street Square Trolley Weekday - Modified route to provide lunchtime service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and to operate during the peak hours of 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. and 4 - 6 p.m.
Facility Modification
Alief Park and Ride Lot Close the facility due to underutilization.
