Forum Rules Reminder

This is a copy of a post I stuck up on 8-15-06 in the Site Announcements forum. It strikes me that I should make it a sticky topic in this (main) forum as well. As a reminder -- posts that are found by mods to be in violation of the terms of service are subject to deletion/editing by the mods without notice. A user ban is the ultimate remedy, although rarely has that action been needed (countable on one hand!) because we usually (thankfully) don't draw angry, unreasonable types who consistently refuse to follow the rules. Here is the reminder post from the other forum:

In the last week, we've had a couple of commenters who have had some trouble abiding by the forum rules that are listed upon signup and under the rules tab. Their behavior has detracted from the usual high level of conversation, to the point of generating complaints from other commenters. I probably let it go on a little too long, in all honesty, because I try to give a lot of leeway here. Nonetheless, I finally had to remove a number of comments without notice to stop the trolling.

I thought it might be useful to post the rules as a sticky thread, just as a reminder. Only a handful of commenters   have ever managed to have problems with these rules. My thanks to all the rest of you, whose conversation makes this little hobby all the more enjoyable. You guys deserve moderators who will enforce the rules, and we'll keep trying to do so. Thanks again.

Such behavior will not be tolerated on this message board, and any such instances will result in ALL of the user's registered accounts being terminated without warning. The administrators of this board may also, at their discretion, publicize information that identifies the offender (email addresses and/or IP addresses).
