Breathe easier, Houston bar patrons
Houston's bar patrons can breathe a little easier today, as the smoking ban expands to bars:
Smokers will have fewer places to light up beginning Saturday when a new, stricter citywide smoking ban goes into effect, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The smoking ban for the city of Houston will expand to bars on Sept. 1.
The current law prohibits smoking in some indoor workplaces, including restaurants, but smoking is allowed in bars and the bar sections of restaurants.
Enforcement is virtually nonexistent (since that would cost the city money), so it will be interesting to see if all bars and patrons comply with the ordinance, or if any incidents result from nonsmokers confronting violators.
