About our bloggers
The following individuals are the blogHOUSTON blogging team.
Kevin Whited
Kevin Whited is the editor and web guru of blogHOUSTON.net. He came to Houston in 1995 to work on a doctorate in political science and fell in love with this crazy city. He started a personal weblog some time ago to keep track of Houston's dive bars, among other things, and somehow won a Houston Press award in the process. He enjoys poking fun at people who take themselves too seriously and people who abuse the public trust.
Catherine Athearn
Catherine Athearn is the copy editor at blogHOUSTON.net. In addition to being the expert grammarian, our editor-from-the-land-of- the-bard is also our chief Astros booster. She has curbed our editor's nasty habit of slamming the Astros by insisting blogHOUSTON.net buy her a Gin and Tonic for every mistake she corrects AND every negative reference he makes to the Astros.
Anne Linehan
Anne Linehan is a contributing editor and co-founder of blogHOUSTON.net. She, too, has lived in Houston a short time, but we like the fact that she can't figure out why Houstonians put up with the awful Houston Chronicle. We can't figure it out either, so we invited her to come hang out with us. Her hubby adds considerably to Houston's culinary scene, but he told us he'd break our fingers if we mentioned his name. So you have to take our word for it.
Callie Markantonis
Callie Markantonis is a contributing editor to blogHOUSTON.net. She's a lifetime Houstonian with an actual degree in journalism. We count on her to tell us what to do when we get confused about this alt-media stuff. We also like the fact that she can navigate the downtown tunnel system. And it's rumored she carries undue influence with the editor. Crazy alt-media.
Ubu Roi
Ubu Roi is a pseudonym taken from the title of a play by Alfred Jarry, father of the "theater of the absurd." The veteran City of Houston employee who has chosen to be known as "King Turd" is a jack of all trades and master of none, holding a BA from a virtually unknown university, and having taken training in various business, legal, and technical fields. For over 15 years he has toiled away silently in the bowels of the Public Works & Engineering Department, surfacing in 2004 to create Houblog. Since then, he has been found on the side of the common person vs. the elites that try to dominate the city -- or use it for their own purpose or profit.
Jason
Jason is a contributor to blogHOUSTON.net. His personal blog, Cigars, Donuts, and Coffee, is such a regular read of ours that we decided he might as well be posting some of it here.
