KBME to offer local sports talk midday
The Chronicle's David Barron reports that KBME's local midday sports talk show starts today:
KBME (790 AM) will continue weaning itself from ESPN Radio today, replacing the Dan Patrick Show with a noon to 3 p.m. weekday show featuring Ted DeLuca and Chronicle columnist John P. Lopez.
Lopez said the TD and J-Lo Show will provide a local alternative to the national slant of Patrick, which moves to KFNC (97.5 FM) in January, and the Jim Rome Show on KILT (610 AM).
" Jim Rome has what I would call a cult following, and I don't mean that in a disparaging way," Lopez said. " Dan Patrick does what he does well, but it's a sweeping look at the nation and an infomercial for ESPN, which is fine.
"But that leaves a void. There's been no local talk at that hour. But now, if something happens at 10 a.m., you won't have to wait anymore to get analysis and opinion from local guys."
I've never listened to Lopez, so I'll be curious how it goes. If the local show is good, then I would imagine it could have some ratings success (although competing against Rome is tough). If the local show resembles that terrible KBME morning effort, though....
